How to use this aquatic and terrestrial pollution practice quiz
- Answer before checking.Choose an option, then press Check Answer to record it. Use a hint when you need one; hint use is noted in your results.
- Explain the reasoning.Read the explanation after each answer. For data questions, use the supplied assumptions and separate observed patterns from causal conclusions.
- Revisit weak topics.Review missed answers or questions marked for review. Retry the selection for a fresh attempt, then apply the ideas to new graphs and written questions.
Concept check: Separate bioaccumulation within an organism from biomagnification between trophic levels. Removal efficiency = (inlet − outlet) / inlet × 100%. LD50 measures acute lethality in a specified test; it is not a safe human exposure limit.
APES Unit 8 quiz FAQs
What does the APES Unit 8 quiz cover?
The quiz has 49 multiple-choice practice questions across all 15 Unit 8 topics, from pollution sources and ecosystem impacts to endocrine disruptors, wetlands, eutrophication, thermal pollution, persistent pollutants, bioaccumulation, waste management, sewage treatment, toxicity and pathogens. It includes hypothetical data tables and calculations with supplied assumptions.
How much of the AP Environmental Science exam is Unit 8?
College Board assigns Unit 8: Aquatic and Terrestrial Pollution a 7–10% weighting in the multiple-choice section. This independent practice quiz is not an official College Board exam.
What is the difference between bioaccumulation and biomagnification?
Bioaccumulation is contaminant buildup within an organism when uptake exceeds elimination. Biomagnification is an increase in concentration across trophic levels through food-web transfer. Neither process follows a universal tenfold multiplier. Use comparable concentrations and the feeding relationships given in a question.
Can I see explanations and retry missed questions?
Each recorded answer reveals the correct option and explanation. View results to review missed questions, then use Retry this selection to clear those answers and start a new attempt. Questions marked for review create a separate study set. You can eliminate and restore choices before checking an answer.
How is the quiz score calculated?
Each correct answer earns one point. Answered accuracy uses only answered questions; the selection score uses all questions in that selection, including unanswered ones. Hints are counted separately without a points penalty. The score does not predict an AP grade.
Does my quiz progress save?
Answers, review marks, hints and timer progress save in this browser when local storage is available. They do not sync across devices. The optional 60-second practice timer pauses when this tab is hidden; it is not official exam timing.
