What is covered in the APES Unit 9 quiz?
Practise stratospheric ozone, ozone protection, greenhouse physics, emissions, climate change, ocean warming, acidification, invasions, endangered species and biodiversity. Choose a topic for five questions with hints and explanations.
- 9.1 Stratospheric Ozone Depletion (5 questions)
- 9.2 Reducing Ozone Depletion (5 questions)
- 9.3 The Greenhouse Effect (5 questions)
- 9.4 Increases in the Greenhouse Gases (5 questions)
- 9.5 Global Climate Change (5 questions)
- 9.6 Ocean Warming (5 questions)
- 9.7 Ocean Acidification (5 questions)
- 9.8 Invasive Species (5 questions)
- 9.9 Endangered Species (5 questions)
- 9.10 Human Impacts on Biodiversity (5 questions)
Unit 9 has a published 15–20% weighting in the multiple-choice section. Use this global change practice test alongside revision of the other eight AP Environmental Science units.
How to use this global change practice quiz
- Answer before checking.Choose an option, then press Check Answer to record it. Use a hint when you need one; hint use is noted in your results.
- Explain the reasoning.Read the explanation after each answer. For data questions, use the supplied assumptions and separate observed patterns from causal conclusions.
- Revisit weak topics.Review missed answers or questions marked for review. Retry the selection for a fresh attempt, then apply the ideas to new graphs and written questions.
Concept check: Keep ozone depletion separate from enhanced greenhouse warming. For calculations, use the supplied baseline and time horizon: percentage change = (new − original) / original × 100%. A pH decrease of one unit means a tenfold increase in hydrogen-ion concentration.
APES Unit 9 quiz FAQs
What does the APES Unit 9 quiz cover?
The quiz has 50 multiple-choice practice questions across all 10 Global Change topics: stratospheric ozone depletion, ozone protection, the greenhouse effect, greenhouse-gas increases, climate change, ocean warming, ocean acidification, invasive species, endangered species and human impacts on biodiversity. It includes calculations, hypothetical data tables and scientific reasoning.
How much of the AP Environmental Science exam is Unit 9?
College Board assigns Unit 9: Global Change a 15–20% weighting in the multiple-choice section. This independent practice quiz is not an official College Board exam.
How are ozone depletion, global warming and ocean acidification different?
Stratospheric ozone depletion reduces protection from ultraviolet radiation. Enhanced greenhouse warming involves changes in infrared energy transfer. CO2 uptake changes seawater carbonate chemistry and lowers pH, causing ocean acidification. Some chemicals affect more than one process, but their mechanisms and suitable solutions differ.
Can I see explanations and retry missed questions?
Each recorded answer reveals the correct option and explanation. View results to review missed questions, then use Retry this selection to clear those answers and start a new attempt. Questions marked for review create a separate study set. You can eliminate and restore choices before checking an answer.
How is the quiz score calculated?
Each correct answer earns one point. Answered accuracy uses only answered questions; the selection score uses all questions in that selection, including unanswered ones. Hints are counted separately without a points penalty. The score does not predict an AP grade.
Does my quiz progress save?
Answers, review marks, hints and timer progress save in this browser when local storage is available. They do not sync across devices. The optional 60-second practice timer pauses when this tab is hidden; it is not official exam timing.
