PTE Core is for eligible Canadian immigration uses; PTE Home is a two-skills UK visa test. These are separate tests, so confirm your application requirement.
Find the next appointment
- Go to Pearson's PTE Academic page (linked in official sources below) and choose Check availability.
- Select the exact test type, country and city; inspect each test centre's available dates and times.
- Sign in to or create your myPTE account. Enter your name exactly as on the identification document required by Pearson for your country.
- Review the appointment, price, ID policy and cancellation terms, then pay and retain the confirmation.
Appointments can be frequent, but availability differs by centre and may fill. Pearson says tests can generally be booked up to six months ahead. Book with enough time for score delivery and any retake before your university or visa deadline.
Current PTE Academic format
The PTE Academic and Academic UKVI update effective 7 August 2025 added Summarize Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation to Speaking & Writing. The original 20 question types remain, so current preparation should cover 22 question types. The test remains around two hours at an authorised test centre; PTE Academic is not an at-home test.
| Part | Current Pearson guidance |
|---|---|
| Speaking & Writing | 76–84 minutes; 9 question types |
| Reading | 23–30 minutes; 5 question types |
| Listening | 31–39 minutes; 8 question types |
| Score scale | 10–90 overall and by skill |
Pearson describes scoring as AI combined with human expertise. Older descriptions of an entirely automated test and 20 question types are outdated.
Results, price and score sharing
Pearson says scores are typically available within two business days and can take up to five working days or longer if additional review is needed. The PTE Academic score report is normally valid for two years, subject to an institution's own rules. Pearson permits free score sharing with institutions through myPTE.
Price: Pearson displays the local test fee after you select the test and country/centre. Because fees differ by test and location, this guide does not repeat older unverified UAE and global price estimates. Check the amount shown by Pearson before payment.
Rescheduling and cancellation
Under Pearson's policy updated 17 September 2026, you may reschedule for free when more than 14 full calendar days remain. With 14 days or fewer, myPTE does not offer rescheduling; cancel and book again if needed. Cancellation gives a full refund when more than 14 full days remain, a 50% refund between 14 and 7 full days, and no refund with 7 days or fewer. Pearson may consider documented medical or family emergencies separately; read its policy for the full conditions.
How to find every upcoming PTE appointment that applies to you
Pearson does not issue a single worldwide PTE Academic date sheet. It offers appointments by test product, centre and available seat. The live myPTE booking flow is the source for future dates in Dubai or any other city. A general article cannot honestly list every upcoming session because seats open, fill, move and disappear as centre capacity changes. To identify the dates that matter, first select the exact PTE test your recipient requires, then select your city and inspect each authorised centre. Repeat the search if you can travel to more than one location.
Write down the displayed date, time, centre address, test name and fee before selecting a seat. Check these again on the payment review screen. A centre may have several sessions in one day or no session on the date you expected. A sample Monday or Saturday from a blog is not evidence of availability. The confirmation in your myPTE account is the personalised appointment you should plan around. Pearson allows bookings up to six months ahead under its published retake policy, so a date farther away may not yet appear even though testing will continue.
If you are planning another examination in the same term, place all deadlines on one calendar. Our international exam timetable links the school, admissions and language guides. Compare preparation time as well as test dates: choosing the earliest available PTE seat can be a poor decision if it leaves no opportunity to reach the required score.
Choose Academic, Academic UKVI, Core or Home correctly
PTE Academic is used for many higher-education applications, some professional registration purposes and specified Australia and New Zealand visa pathways. PTE Academic UKVI is the secure four-skill product for UK visa categories that require it. PTE Core serves specified Canadian immigration applications. PTE Home is a two-skill family of tests for certain UK visa and settlement purposes. These names are separate products, and an available seat for one does not imply that its score will satisfy another route.
Before buying, open the receiving university's, professional body's or immigration authority's own instructions. Record the exact product name, overall score, any minimum in each communicative skill, score validity period and how the result must be sent. Requirements can differ even among universities in the same country. If your pathway says “approved secure English language test,” determine the exact approved product rather than assuming an ordinary PTE Academic result is interchangeable with Academic UKVI. For a Canadian immigration route, confirm that PTE Core is accepted for your particular application.
If you have several destinations, use the strictest common requirement only after confirming each accepts the same test product. A single high Academic score cannot solve a wrong-test-type problem. The IELTS Dubai booking guide explains another accepted test family, while our OET guide is relevant to some healthcare applicants. Choose between providers only after checking the recipient's current policy.
Booking a PTE Academic seat in Dubai
Start from Pearson's official PTE Academic page, listed at the bottom of this guide, and choose its availability function. Sign in to myPTE or create an account using your own details. Select the correct test product, then the UAE and your preferred city. Inspect the available test centres and their open appointments. Consider travel time and the reporting instructions as well as the calendar date. An early morning seat at a distant venue may be less practical than a later session you can reach without stress.
Enter your name and identity details exactly as Pearson requires for your country and chosen test. Read the current ID policy before payment. Your booking name, document number and document validity can matter at check-in. Do not assume a nickname, translated spelling or a different identity document will be accepted. If an ID exception is necessary, resolve it through Pearson's published process well before the appointment. A small mismatch discovered at the test centre can jeopardise both the seat and the fee.
At checkout, review the test title, date, time, local time zone, venue, price and cancellation terms. Pay only after all fields match your requirement. Save the receipt and confirmation email, then locate the appointment in myPTE. Add the reporting time and full address to your calendar. If the email is missing, check the account and contact Pearson before buying a second appointment. For an employer-sponsored test, agree who will receive and store the booking information before the payment is made.
Back-plan from your application deadline
Most PTE Academic results are available within two business days, and Pearson says processing can take up to five business days in some cases. Additional review can take longer. A result appearing in myPTE is not necessarily the moment your university receives it. Check how the recipient asks for score sharing, how long its application system takes to update and whether it accepts a pending score at the deadline. Plan for the stricter interpretation unless the recipient confirms otherwise.
Suppose an application closes on a Friday. A test on the preceding Thursday may appear attractive because the usual score window is short, but it leaves almost no room for a processing delay, a mistake in your account or a requested retake. A safer plan includes time to receive the score, inspect individual skills, share it and solve any recipient issue. How much buffer you need depends on the consequences of missing the deadline and the possibility of booking another seat. This is a planning method, not a promise that a particular test day will deliver a result by a specific hour.
Score reports generally remain valid for two years, while receiving organisations can set their own age limits. If you already have a result, check whether it is the correct PTE product and whether it will still meet the policy when the recipient assesses the application. If it does, you may not need another test. If you need a higher score, use the old report to identify the skill gap before choosing the next appointment.
The current PTE Academic structure
Pearson's 2025 update applies to Academic and Academic UKVI tests taken after 7 August 2025, so it remains relevant to 2026 candidates. The original 20 question types stayed, and Summarize Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation were added. That gives 22 question types across Speaking and Writing, Reading, and Listening. The test is still roughly two hours long. PTE Core and PTE Home were not changed by that Academic update. Older practice materials that omit the two new tasks are incomplete for a current Academic booking.
Speaking and Writing is the longest section. The new group-discussion item asks you to listen to several speakers and give a coherent spoken summary. The situation item presents a context and asks for a suitable extended response. Practise understanding the purpose, selecting key information and speaking naturally within the allotted response time. Repeating a memorised template that ignores the prompt is a weak strategy. Pearson provides updated examples and scored practice materials; use the current version of its guidance when planning practice.
Reading tests comprehension, vocabulary in context, paragraph order and completion of text. Listening includes both understanding and some response tasks that require accurate spelling or typing. The score report gives an overall score and scores for Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing on the 10–90 scale. Because question types can contribute to more than one skill, review the official score guide before assuming a single drill will raise only one score. Your practice should still focus on the weak skill areas shown in the report.
Scoring and score requirements
Pearson describes PTE scoring as a combination of AI and human expertise for some responses. The scoring approach has changed from older claims that every answer is judged exclusively by a machine. An overall score is useful, but many recipients also require a minimum in each skill. Read the exact requirement; an overall score above the target may still fail if one component is short. Conversely, a university may accept a range of scores through a pathway programme rather than a single published threshold. Only its current admissions policy can settle the question.
Do not treat score conversion charts as automatic eligibility. Pearson publishes concordance information comparing PTE and other English tests, but a university or visa authority may use its own published threshold. Translate no score by memory when the application is high stakes. Record the exact number for the correct PTE product and check whether the organisation accepts a result from the test date you are considering. If a requirement changes after you booked, contact the recipient for written guidance.
Use a diagnostic practice test to estimate readiness, then focus on error patterns. A candidate who loses points because of microphone timing needs a different intervention from one who struggles with academic vocabulary. A rough target score without a baseline can make a two-week plan unrealistic. Preparation becomes efficient when every exercise answers a specific question: what was wrong, why, and what action prevents the same error next time?
Speaking preparation for the updated test
For Read Aloud, practise steady pace, clear phrasing and accurate pronunciation without racing. For Repeat Sentence, work on listening for meaning and grammatical structure rather than trying to hold every word as a disconnected sound. For Describe Image and Retell Lecture, identify the central pattern or point first and then add a few supporting details. Clear, relevant speech is preferable to a memorised paragraph that does not match the stimulus.
For Summarize Group Discussion, listen for each speaker's main idea, agreements and differences. Build a short verbal outline while the recording plays and then deliver a compact summary of the discussion, not a transcript of isolated phrases. For Respond to a Situation, identify your role, the intended audience and the action requested. Respond as a person would in that context. Practise with different scenarios so you can adapt instead of relying on a single canned opening. These skills connect to real communication and help with the new task types.
Record your practice. Listen for long pauses, repeated fillers, missing content and unclear endings. Use Pearson's official examples to understand task rules, then have a tutor or peer review responses against the current criteria. Speaking practice should include a working microphone and a quiet setting, but remember that the real test is at an authorised centre. If you are comparing study schedules with other admissions exams, the SAT guide and ACT guide can help avoid stacking major test weeks.
Writing, Reading and Listening preparation
In writing, first understand the exact prompt and expected length. For Summarize Written Text, find the author's main relationship between ideas rather than copying the first sentence. For an essay, state a clear position, develop it with relevant reasons and keep a short checking period for grammar and coherence. Practise typing under time limits, because planning a strong answer slowly at home does not prove you can produce it during a live session. Use feedback that points to specific evidence in your response.
In Reading, review wrong answers by locating the exact text that supports the correct choice. Work on vocabulary in context, transitions between paragraphs and grammar cues in fill-in tasks. Timed practice helps, but untimed explanation of errors is what changes future performance. In Listening, practise taking concise notes, recognising speaker corrections and typing what you heard accurately. Listening questions can expose small spelling and singular/plural errors, so keep an error log and revisit it weekly.
Integrated question types mean practice should cover all sections. Do not spend every session on the easiest task simply because it feels productive. Assign practice time based on your diagnostic score and the recipient's skill thresholds. If Writing is the only score below a required minimum, review which writing tasks and language features caused the shortfall while maintaining other skills. If several skills are below target, a longer plan may be more realistic than a rushed retake.
An eight-week PTE preparation example
Week one: verify the accepted PTE product, record the required scores and take a current-format diagnostic. Weeks two and three: learn all question types, especially the two newer Speaking and Writing tasks, and build a personal error log. Weeks four and five: complete targeted timed sets for weak skills and obtain detailed feedback. Weeks six and seven: take full-length current-format practice tests, review each one and adjust the plan. Week eight: reduce volume, revisit recurring errors, confirm ID and test-centre logistics, and protect sleep before the appointment.
This is an example, not a mandatory Pearson timetable. Someone near the required score may need a shorter focused period; someone significantly below it may need longer. Keep the booking date flexible until a diagnostic and real seat availability support it. If the application deadline is fixed, decide early whether PTE is the right route and whether there is enough time for a retake. Rescheduling, cancelling and retaking
Pearson's policy updated 17 September 2026 says you can reschedule free when more than 14 full calendar days remain, up to a maximum of six changes for one appointment. At 14 days or fewer the reschedule function is not available; you must cancel and book another test if you need a different date. A cancellation more than 14 full days out gets a full refund. Between 14 and 7 full days, the refund is 50%. At 7 days or fewer, there is no refund under the standard policy. Special emergencies are considered separately, with evidence and timing rules.
The retake policy says you can book another test only after receiving the last test's score and can hold only one booking at a time. It permits more than one test in a month but normally limits candidates to 12 attempts in a 12-month window, with an exception process in some cases. Tests can be booked up to six months ahead. These rules matter when you are trying to plan a backup appointment: you cannot simply reserve several future seats while waiting for a score. Read the current policy before making a time-critical application plan.
If you miss your score target, inspect which skills fell short and whether the recipient's deadline leaves enough time for a new result. A full retake makes sense when the gap is small and practice evidence suggests improvement, but repeating without understanding the error may only repeat the result. If a technical issue affected the appointment or you want a rescore, use Pearson's official review processes and deadlines. Do not assume that a review will change the result or arrive before an application closes.
Test-day checklist
Read Pearson's confirmation for the centre address, arrival time and accepted ID. Check how to reach the building, including traffic and parking, before test day. Bring the exact required original document. Follow centre rules for belongings and breaks. If you need accommodations or comfort aids, request and confirm them through the authorised process before the appointment. The staff will control the testing environment, and you should ask them immediately if a headset or computer problem occurs during check-in or the test.
During the test, use the timing visible on screen and move on when a task ends. The speaking microphone captures your response, so speak clearly at a natural volume. Avoid spending a large share of the section on a single answer when the format moves automatically. Read instructions for each task even if you have practised it many times. Familiarity with the official test interface helps reduce surprises; it does not replace the need to understand the question in front of you.
Final booking checklist
- Confirm the exact PTE product and score thresholds with the recipient.
- Search the official Pearson availability flow for live seats in your chosen city.
- Check date, time, centre, ID rules, fee and application deadline.
- Book one valid appointment and save the myPTE confirmation.
- Practise the current 22-question-type Academic format when that is your test.
- Leave a buffer for score release, sharing and possible additional review.
- Read the current cancellation and retake policies before changing plans.
Answers to planning questions
Does a centre showing a date guarantee a seat?
No. Availability can change while other candidates complete bookings. A date displayed in a search result is useful for planning, but the completed myPTE booking and confirmation are what reserve the appointment. If a payment fails or a session disappears, inspect your account before trying again. Retain the confirmation number and the exact test type. If you have questions about a charge without a confirmed appointment, contact Pearson support with the transaction details instead of creating multiple accounts.
How should I choose between two available Dubai centres?
Compare the arrival instructions, journey time, accessible travel options and available start times. The closest centre is not always the best choice if its slot leaves little preparation or result buffer. Check whether the recipient needs a secure UKVI product and whether the centre offers it. Consider the time you will need to reach the venue during weekday traffic and the type of ID you must present. Your decision should be based on the particular appointment displayed, not a general claim that every centre follows the same daily schedule.
Can I use one score for several applications?
Often a PTE Academic score can be shared with multiple accepting organisations through myPTE, but each organisation decides which test product, score level and result age it accepts. Verify all destinations individually. Check whether the recipient must be selected in the score sharing tool and whether its admissions portal also asks for a score-report number. Keep a record of when and to whom you shared a result. A score that meets one programme's overall requirement may fail another programme's individual-skill minimum.
Is a very early test always better?
No. An early appointment gives more room for score release and a possible retake, but it also reduces preparation time. Compare the value of extra practice against the risk of leaving no result buffer. A diagnostic test can make that tradeoff concrete. If you are well below the target, a rushed booking may cost another test fee. If you are already performing at or above all required thresholds, an earlier seat may provide a useful margin before application deadlines.
What if my score is delayed?
Check your myPTE account and Pearson's support guidance. Do not assume the typical two-business-day result window is a guaranteed deadline. Tell the receiving organisation promptly if its application closes soon and ask whether it can accept a pending result or an updated score later. Keep a record of the test date and any support correspondence. Avoid buying a replacement test merely because the result has not appeared at the earliest expected hour; Pearson's own stated processing window is broader.
Can old practice resources still help?
Older materials can still exercise vocabulary, grammar, reading and listening, and the original 20 Academic question types remain. However, material created before the August 2025 update does not fully prepare you for Summarize Group Discussion or Respond to a Situation. It may also describe scoring too simply. Use current Pearson resources to learn the actual task set and scoring guidance, then use older drills only for skills that still match. The date of a resource matters more than its popularity.
Frequently asked questions
What are the remaining PTE dates in 2026?
There is no single fixed schedule. Pearson's live booking finder shows bookable appointments for the test type and centre you choose. Select Dubai or your city to view actual seats.
How long do PTE results take?
Usually within two business days; Pearson says they can take up to five working days, and additional review can take longer. Build a buffer into your application plan.
Can I take PTE Academic at home?
No. Pearson says PTE Academic is taken on a computer at an authorised test centre.
Can I move my test if it is next week?
Pearson does not offer the reschedule button when 14 days or fewer remain. You may cancel and rebook; the refund amount depends on the remaining days.
How many times can I retake PTE Academic?
Pearson's retake policy normally limits attempts to 12 in a rolling 12-month period, with an exception request route. Check Pearson's current rules and wait until a score is released before a new booking.
