How to use this population practice quiz
- Answer before checking.Choose an option, then press Check Answer to record it. Use a hint when you need one; hint use is noted in your results.
- Explain the reasoning.Read the explanation after each answer. For data questions, compare the evidence and check what it can support. For calculations, use the supplied model and units.
- Revisit weak topics.Review missed answers or questions marked for review. Retry the selection for a fresh attempt, then apply the ideas to new graphs and written questions.
Concept check: Separate total change from percentage growth, natural increase from migration, and fertility from population momentum. Check the assumptions and units of each model.
APES Unit 3 quiz FAQs
What does the APES Unit 3 quiz cover?
The quiz has 55 multiple-choice practice questions across all nine Unit 3 topics: generalists and specialists, r/K life histories, survivorship, carrying capacity, resource-limited growth, age structure, total fertility rate, human population dynamics and demographic transition. Questions include hypothetical data tables, applied scenarios and calculations with supplied assumptions.
How much of the AP Environmental Science exam is Unit 3?
College Board assigns Unit 3: Populations a 10–15% weighting in the multiple-choice section. This independent practice quiz is not an official College Board exam.
How do I calculate population growth and doubling time?
Net change equals births plus immigration minus deaths and emigration. With crude birth and death rates per 1,000, subtract and divide by 10 to get the natural-increase percentage. The Rule of 70 approximates doubling time as 70 divided by a sustained positive annual percentage growth rate.
Can I see explanations and retry missed questions?
Each recorded answer reveals the correct option and explanation. View results to review missed questions, then use Retry this selection to clear those answers and start a new attempt. Questions marked for review create a separate study set. You can eliminate and restore choices before checking an answer.
How is the quiz score calculated?
Each correct answer earns one point. Answered accuracy uses only answered questions; the selection score uses all questions in that selection, including unanswered ones. Hints are counted separately without a points penalty. The score does not predict an AP grade.
Does my quiz progress save?
Answers, review marks, hints and timer progress save in this browser when local storage is available. They do not sync across devices. The optional 60-second practice timer pauses when this tab is hidden; it is not official exam timing.
