How GPA is Calculated
The Canadian GPA is calculated using a weighted average formula:
GPA = Σ (Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ Total Credit Hours
Where:
- Σ (Sigma) = Sum of all courses
- Grade Points = The point value for each letter grade (0.0 to 4.0)
- Credit Hours = The number of credits for each course (typically 3)
Example Calculation:
Course 1: A (4.0) × 3 credits = 12.0 points
Course 2: B+ (3.3) × 3 credits = 9.9 points
Course 3: A- (3.7) × 4 credits = 14.8 points
GPA = (12.0 + 9.9 + 14.8) ÷ (3 + 3 + 4) = 36.7 ÷ 10 = 3.67
