AP® Chemistry – Past Free-Response Questions (2015–2025)
Explore official AP Chemistry free-response questions from the College Board for exam years 2015 through 2025. These past papers mirror the real exam format and help students build quantitative problem-solving and written explanation skills across units such as atomic structure, molecular and ionic structure, intermolecular forces and properties, chemical reactions, kinetics, thermodynamics, equilibrium, and acids and bases.
The AP Chemistry Exam is 3 hours 15 minutes long and has two sections: 60 multiple‑choice questions in 90 minutes and 7 free‑response questions in 105 minutes, each section contributing half of the total score. Section II includes 3 long‑answer and 4 short‑answer questions that require calculations, symbolic reasoning, representation of particulate models, and written justifications.
Working through multiple years of free-response questions is an efficient way to practice interpreting particle diagrams, analyzing experimental data, writing net ionic equations, applying equilibrium and thermodynamics, and justifying each step using appropriate chemical principles under exam timing.
