CGPA Calculation Formula
CGPA is calculated by taking the weighted average of all semester SGPAs, where the weight is the total credits for each semester:
CGPA =
Σ (SGPAi × Creditsi)
Σ Creditsi
Where:
- SGPAi = Semester GPA for semester i
- Creditsi = Total credits for semester i
- Σ = Sum of all semesters
Why Credits Matter
Semesters with more credit hours have a greater impact on your overall CGPA. This ensures fair weighting based on academic workload:
- A semester with 25 credits affects CGPA more than one with 18 credits
- Final year semesters often carry more credits due to projects
- Elective-heavy semesters may have varying credit loads
